A few weeks ago, USCIS resumed in-person public services at its field offices, asylum offices, and application support centers (ASCs).
What this means is that USCIS has resumed scheduling interviews and biometrics appointments. However, the number of appointments and interviews are still limited to ensure social distancing, allow time for proper cleaning and sanitation, and reduce waiting room occupancy.
Here are some tips:
USCIS Interviews and Naturalization & Oath-taking Ceremonies
If you had a previously scheduled interview or appointment, you will be receiving a new appointment letter in the mail. Naturalization ceremonies will be held under a shorter format and you can no longer bring a family member or friend with you. Your new appointment letter will include safety requirements.
There is a special protocol that all USCIS officers have to follow if an applicant is represented by an attorney, but the attorney is unable to attend the interview. Make sure to check-in with your attorney before your interview appointment.
Appointments at an Application Support Center
If you had an appointment scheduled during the time the ASC was closed, you will receive an automatic reschedule in the mail. The new appointment letter will include safety requirements, including a requirement to wear a mask and a suggestion (not a requirement) to bring your own black or blue ink pen.
For either appointment, you will not be allowed to center the building more than 15 minutes in advance of your appointment (30 minutes for naturalization ceremonies.) They have also limited the number of people you can bring inside the facility. Unless they also have an appointment at the same time, you can only bring one family member with you, one representative, and one person providing disability assistance. Your interpreter can only appear by phone.
It goes without saying that if you have any symptoms of COVID-19 including cough, fever, or difficulty breathing, or you have been exposed to someone who is known or suspected to have COVID-19, then you must reschedule your appointment.
